But after I went shopping for holiday gifts and saw some of the worse, most expensive wedding favors, I have to!

So let's start from the beginning. What's up with having to give a wedding favor anyway? Well, for starters, it says "thank you for coming" to your guests. Secondly, it can really add to dressing up your tables. And lastly, they can be a keepsake for your guests to remember your special day for years to come.

Prices? Oh boy...they range is huge! You can find a "wedding favor"...if you want to call it that...for as little as 25 cents or as expensive as $50 apiece. And you can find every price in between as well as all grades of quality of favors.

And yes, I will, at Designs to Remember, have every type and every price range to suit everyone, except for the 25 cent people. Those favors are so cheaply made, I don't want to be associated with them!

When my 2nd daughter got married, she was marrying an Italian man who's relatives were coming in from Italy. They really wanted an Italian flavor for their favor, so they opted for our signature item - our imported bottles hand filled with herbs and oils. In fact, this is the exact one they chose.<

For her shower, her bridesmaids gave her a "tea", which took place in the afternoon and had hors d'oeurves and petit fors and mini sandwiches. It was just beautiful. Because of the theme, they picked out one of my exclusive items that you will not find anywhere else, our porcelain mini-teapot. I just LOVE this one!

And of course there are the "Love" coasters that is one of my best sellers. You will find these around the web, but not at this price!

Okay...you getting the idea? I could go on and on and on. My favors add such a beautiful touch to your Engagement Party, Wedding Shower, Bridal Shower, Sweet 16, Birthday Parties...just about any occasion that you want to be extra special.

Stop by and visit me. Drop me a note if you have been on my blog. I love hearing from all of you!

And don't forget - the wedding favor is NOT the least of what you have to worry about. Remember, your guests will be spending their entire time at your wedding, staring at it!

Much happiness to you!
Bella
Unique Wedding Favors</A<>

Wedding Gown - HUGE SAVINGS!

Well, this one is hard to believe! I've done what I'm about to share with you before with other brides, but never has such a savings occurred! Let me explain...

One of the future brides that I'm helping went to try on some wedding gowns. The third gown she tried on, she fell in love with. Well, that is a miracle in itself. She did what I told her to do. I explained to her that even if there isn't a manufacturer's or designer's tag on the inside, to ask the clerk who made the gown. If they won't give you that information, then get out of there quickly. They are not reputable.

She asked the clerk and she told her Allure. Having worked with that designer for many years, I knew to go on their website, AllureBridals.com. She went on the website also and she picked out the gown that she tried on and got the Allure style number. She emailed me immediately, and I started making my calls to the Bridal Salons in her area which were listed on Allure's website.

The original price that was given her was $3700, but they reduced it to $3200. Still pretty steep for this couple. I called the first place. They would not give prices over the phone. No problem...onto the next. Four out of the six places I called gave me prices for that exact gown. They ranged in price from $1050 to $1250!!! That's a HUGE savings. Cross my heart...true story...just happened!

Okay, so what am I telling you? Do not settle! If you want a specific gown and it is way too expensive, find out who makes it, go to their website, get the style number and call around. You can literally save hundreds to thousands!

If you have any questions or would like any help, please visit my website www.designstoremember.com. This young lady just found a gorgeous tiara there for 1/10th of what she was going to have to pay at the Bridal shop! So look around and enjoy and if you need something, just give a holler!

Much happiness to you all,
Bella
Unique Wedding Favors</A<>

BEAUTIFUL WEDDING ON A BUDGET!

I've been SO busy answering emails, helping brides and finding new and wonderful items for you guys from my website, that I haven't blogged much. But one precious young woman's email provoked me to blog today.

She is attempting to put together a wedding in Los Angeles for under $5,000! Actually, attempting "anything" in Los Angeles for an inexpensive amount of money is a miracle! But especially a wedding.

I answered her comment on the blog post about all inclusive weddings. For those of you who are on a tight budget, there are many awesome tips that you can incorporate into your day. But, this very creative woman had some great ideas herself. I hope she doesn't mind me sharing them here.

She is making and printing her invitations herself. She's renting her gown, and attempting to make the cake herself (I'm sure with the help of others! But I'm using "her" just to illustrate a point). She knows a chef who is going to do the catering. She is buying fresh flowers online and decorating them, again, herself. And what is most impressive, is she wrote to the Los Angeles Parks Department, and she will be having her reception at one of their locations!
Needless to say, this girl should maybe go into wedding planning! Good job Sarah!

And in her email, she left a little note at the end, that she was going to purchase our adorable wedding cameras! Well, I'm glad we were able to be part of your special day in some way!

This is one example of someone who has set her mind to get a beautiful day without going into debt. I have many more to share with you in the coming days. Remember, if you want any help with ideas, just write a comment here, or go to my website www.designstoremember.com and leave a note there. I'll get back to you asap.

Much happiness to all of you,
Bella

Wedding Venue Checklist!

Deciding on where to have your wedding is probably the most difficult decision you will have to make with regards to your special day. And there are many factors to think about when deciding on the venue.

In the midst of the craziness that you are in the middle of, or about to embark upon, perhaps this venue checklist will help!

1. Will the ceremony be at a Church/Temple/Other or on the venue's property?
2. How large must the venue be - for 50 people or for 500?
3. Will it sit at least 30-40% of that number comfortably for the ceremony?
4. Do you want everything in one place to greatly diminish the need to drive?
5. Does the venue have guest accomodations?
6. Do you want an early wedding to be able to have more time in the evening to yourselves?
7. Do you want an evening wedding to be able to have more time to prepare?
8. Does the venue have a place for guests to be able to retreat away from
the festivities to be able to sit and talk? Do you even want that?
9. Does the venue have its own caterers, or are you able to bring in your own?
10. Does it supply the wedding cake? Anything else?

And obviously, don't forget to stay within your budget. It doesn't matter how beautiful the place is, if you cannot afford it and will spend years paying it off, it just isn't worth it.

Oh and yes, do not forget to check out my website for your unique wedding favors. (And not just wedding favors, SO many other beautiful and affordable items!)

Remember to enjoy the process. It goes by so quickly, that sometimes we forget, these are the most memorable moments of our lives!

Much happiness coming your way!
Bella
Unique Wedding Favors</A<>

A Shower or Wedding That Gives Back!

Planning planning planning! That's what wedding's are about. But have you ever thought that in the middle of all the hubub, that perhaps there is a way to have more than just the bride and groom benefit.

This is what we all know. People bring gifts to showers and weddings. And many times, they take great pains in finding the perfect gift for the happy couple. But what if there was a gift that would give to more than the bride and groom? What if there was a way that a charity would benefit as well?

Well, ask no further. There are several, but this one I have chosen to highlight. It's called the "I Do" Foundation. What happens is this; the bride and groom use any or all of these 11 stores for their gift registry. After the gifts are bought, a percentage (depending on the store) is given to the charity of your choice. Not only does it do a good deed, but history has shown that when people know that a charity is also benefiting, they tend to spend more.

Here is the link: Your "I Do" Gift Registry. Just visit the stores listed and explain to them that you want to be part of the I Do Gift Registry, give them the name of the charity or not-for-profit organization that you want to donate to, and they will take care of the rest.

Now...doesn't that feel good? Getting married and helping out the charity of your choice! What could be better?

And, hey, stop by my website and check out the stuff I have on sale! This is how it's supposed to work...

There are several venues to pick from. You visit each of them, and you choose which one is the best for your particular wedding. Then, you tell the planner how much you want to spend TOTALLY for the entire wedding minus the rings, gown and honeymoon. Those are supposed to be the only things not included. They ask how many people. In this case, it is 120 guests. No problem so far? Great! Now watch what happened.

The breakdown was sent to the future bride and groom. The budget was right on the amount they had told the planner, but there were some omissions. This ALL INCLUSIVE wedding was to include soup to nuts...meaning, cocktail hour, dinner, band, flowers, photography, videography, invitations, wedding favors, limos, etc. all for the budgeted amount.

But what happened when they received their breakdown? Omissions...everywhere. It's too expansive to list here, and it's also personal to the people I am now working with, but let's use this as a learning tool.

When you go to a planner to organize an all inclusive wedding, right from the beginning you have to have in writing what is included for the price you want. And yes, they can make anything fit your budget...they only give you 3 members of the band, no appetizer at dinner, very slim amount of flowers, etc. etc. etc.

So be careful. Better yet, work with someone you know, or do it yourself and get the aid of a consultant that will help you just for buying products from them. That is the wiser way to go, unless cost is not a problem for you. Then enjoy yourself and do whatever you want! But for the rest of you, don't jump into anything too quickly. Search for the best deal with your budget and with those you want to work with. And don't forget, to get the best deals on wedding favors, wedding products, shower and wedding invitations and gifts, stop by my webstore. You will save tons of money. That is one thing I can promise you. And if you have any questions or comments, either leave them here, or write to me on my website. I will help you any way I can and have tons of ideas for a beautiful wedding that can save you tons of money.

Much happiness is coming your way!
Bella
Unique Wedding Favors</A<>

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://weddingfavorhelp.blogspot.com/2006/09/all-inclusive-weddings-be-careful.html' title='All Inclusive Weddings! Well, normally, I would say 9-12 months before the wedding date. But, if you are not one that fluctuates more than 10 lbs. up or down in weight, you can take advantage of a couple of ways to save heaps of money.

Just as every day clothing is seasonal, so are wedding gowns. And, the best time of the year to buy a gown is late summer and/or early fall. That is the time that the new year styles come not these wedding gown boutiques, so the shop owners are trying to sell off the last year’s trends. So if it doesn’t bother you if you have on something that came out that year or the year before (I mean, who the heck can really tell?), you can save up to 80-90% on your gown.

Also, check around or Google ‘wedding gown trunk shows.’ A trunk show is what a designer has in order to show the people in a specific area the new styles of wedding gowns that are now available. They will go into a hotel or store and literally ‘take out of trunks’ their new gown collection. What is awesome about these shows is that if you purchase a gown from them right then and there, they will give you a substantial discount. It is very worth it.

Lastly, don’t forget that many cities have wedding gown rentals. I consulted on a wedding which was very lavish, that the bride rented her wedding gown. Why? Because it wasn’t a sentimental thing to her and she wanted a gown that was close to $20,000. So for $2,000, she rented it for the day. I know, I know, that is a lot of money for a rental, but for her, it was worth every penny. And yes, there are VERY inexpensive wedding gown rentals.

Hope this helped those that are looking for are about to look for their perfect gown for their perfect day. Also, when you get the gown, (or even before) check out my website for tiaras and other hair jewelry. (See, I told you there was more than wedding favors there!) They are absolutely gorgeous and amazingly reasonable.

Much happiness coming your way!
Bella
Unique Wedding Favors</A<>

Wedding Bell Blues!

And yes, the Wedding Bell Blues is more than a song by the 5th Dimension! The wedding bell blues in this case, is a reminder of the “not so fun” things that have to be taken care of because you are tying the knot. Namely, tax consequences and what that means to you both.

If you’re older and been filing a single, filing a joint tax return can be like speaking in a foreign language. So there are several things that you should do before leaving on your honeymoon:

1. Check into whether an adjustment on your withholding tax is needed or not.

2. Let Social Security know if you have a name change. This is very important and could cause a delay in your tax return refund.

3. Update emergency contact information at your place of business and on any other important or emergency cards that you may have.

4. Decide whether or not you are going to file as singles or a joint account. A joint return, be aware, could push you both into another tax bracket. And, it may mean that couple will forfeit student loan interest and other tax benefits. Also, you can check if you quality for the marriage tax. But there are many stipulations here so go to an accountant and find the ins and outs.

5. Review your retirement plans as a married couple.

6. Change your credit card addresses and name (if it’s being changed) and your license.

Speaking of a license, don’t forget your marriage license! Don’t laugh! It’s happened twice that I know of!

Next thing you have to do? Go to my website and save time. Get your wedding favors and gifts for your wedding party as well as invitations at up to 50% less than any retail store! And if you have a question for me, just write me there or leave a comment here and I’ll get right back to you!

Much happiness coming your way!
Bella
Unique Wedding Favors</A<>

Your Honeymoon - What should I do? You want to find a new experience to share with your new spouse...something that you've never done before and may never do again!

If you know a travel agent, go to them and tell them that and they will have many ideas for you. Also, if you google "exotic vacations" you will get tons of ideas. But if you don't have a clue, I have a few for you.

If you want to be more quiet, travel to northern New England and make plans to stay at a Bed and Breakfast. Speaking of those, you could do the same thing in Canada. Nova Scotia is known for their quiet and quaint Bed and Breakfast Inns.

If you want to be adventurous, try going to the Grand Canyon and hiking or mule down the slopes of the canyon. You can even spend the night or a couple of nights on the bottom of the canyon. Yes, bring a sleeping bag, food and water. You'll need it! And, if that's up your alley, then how about going to an Old West Dude Ranch. They will even teach you how to ride a horse and rope cattle. None of these are for the faint of heart or for those that feel that the Holiday Inn is camping out. LOL

Friends of ours, when they went on their honeymoon, rented an RV and had a cross country trip planned. But that's them. And yes, it was a lot of work. But they loved it and felt it was the best honeymoon they could have ever had. Hey, to each his own...y'know?

You're not going to believe me, but you could even go to Alaska and train and participate in a real dog sled race across the tundra. Hey, for that matter, how about an African safari? If you both love the outdoors and high adventure, one of those might be just perfect for you!

Believe me, whatever you decide to do, as long as you BOTH decide on it, you will love it and have a wonderful time. Remember, you have life waiting for you when you get back! Do a couple of things for me, okay? (That is besides going on my website and checking out my awesome wedding favors!) Do this while on your honeymoon - turn off your cell phone, keep the laptop closed and forget about "real life". You will find yourself back in the rat race before you know it, and if you listen to me, you will come back happy and refreshed!

Have fun. Hope I've helped you make a decision. It will be wonderful, whatever you decide!

Much happiness coming your way!
Bella
Unique Wedding Favors</A<>

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://weddingfavorhelp.blogspot.com/2006/09/your-honeymoon-what-should-i-do-where_12.html' title='Your Honeymoon - What should I do? Where should I go? I didn’t know what to expect and it was so unbelievable and breathtaking…well…let me continue or I’ll be here all day and you’ll never learn about this for a possible honeymoon destination.

Cruises are very popular for honeymoons. Like I had said in another blog, my daughter and her spouse went on a Caribbean Cruise for their honeymoon and then stopped at Walt Disney World for 4 days. They felt it was the best of both worlds.

Basically, a cruise is a floating 5 star hotel. Well, some cruise lines are 5 star! My favorite is Princess, with Royal Caribbean a close second. I’ve been on them all, so that is through my personal experience. The only cruise lines that I haven’t been on are the high end ones, like Crystal Cruises. But they are in a realm all of their own. For what they offer, if you have the money, it may be worth it for you to look into.

There are many different options available to you on a cruise with regards to accommodations. Other than that, you eat the same food, drink the same, enjoy all the ship’s amenities, etc. When you pay more, you are paying more for the kind of room you choose. I personally couldn’t take a cruise unless I had a balcony. Just my preference. But then again, I get a bit claustrophobic…so be it. There are inside rooms that have no window or balcony that can be so much less expensive than staying a week at a hotel with food and activities.

On a cruise, you’ll stop at 2-5 ports of call. This is fascinating to me and can be very enjoyable and very romantic. When you visit each port, there are excursions that you can take (yes, for an extra fee!). If you opt out of the excursions, be very careful where you go. There are some ports (Belize and the port in Columbia) that you have to be very careful. There are taxi’s and others just waiting to prey on unsuspecting tourists to rob them or worse. The ship is there for your enjoyment. They are not there to protect you, so be very wary of doing anything on your own.

Cruise locations can be in the U.S. traveling up the Mississippi River or through the glaciers of Alaska, to the far reaching points of the Orient and everything in between. Although just about everything is included in the cost of your honeymoon, just be sure and ask what is not. That way there will be no surprises.

Tomorrow I will discuss all inclusive destinations. But check out the cruises first. And don’t worry about getting sea sick! With today’s sea bands and medications, you’ll be fine. And if you’d like to know exactly what I use, write to me at my website and I’ll let you know personally. Oh yeah, and while you’re on my site, check out my unique wedding favors! You knew I had to throw that in! What can I tell you? Wedding favors is my middle name!

Much happiness coming your way!

Bella
Unique Wedding Favors

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://weddingfavorhelp.blogspot.com/2006/09/your-honeymoon-what-should-i-do-where.html' title='Your Honeymoon - What should I do? My niece went there several years ago when she got married and loved it. Why? Well first of all, it’s away from civilization pretty much and gives you some alone time if that’s what you are looking for. If it’s during the winter, there are all kinds of sports: skiing, sledding, skating, etc. If it’s summer time, there are gorgeous lakes there with water sports. Also, you are only a couple of hours from Niagra Falls and the Canadian border.

There are a ton of resorts in the Poconos which have been known for their Honeymoon packages for decades. For the most part, they are very romantic and peaceful, giving you time to get to know each other as man and wife.

But, make sure that you check the reviews from people who have gone there. I know that many of the Poconos Hotels have redone their rooms, bathrooms, swimming pools, etc. But I also know that there are a couple that are very run down. Again, just make sure that you check on sites like Expedia for reviews by those who have stayed there recently.

For more information about wedding favors…WHAT? How did that get in there? Just kidding! LOL For more information about a Pocono Honeymoon, just call 1.800.POCONOS. You will get all the information you need to discover if this is your honeymoon destination.

Tomorrow’s blog will cover more exotic honeymoons…also more expensive! Have a great day!

Much happiness coming your way!

Bella
Unique Wedding Favors

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://weddingfavorhelp.blogspot.com/2006/09/your-honeymoon-what-should-you-do_08.html' title='Your Honeymoon - What should you do? I know, I know, you probably don’t believe me. But what a couple usually does, is incorporates this place with another destination. For example, my daughter went on a 7 day cruise out of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and then spent 4 days in Orlando. They then came home toward the end of the week and had a few days to chill out and settle into their new home together. That worked very well for them.
Also, there are couples who go to Disneyworld and spend their entire honeymoon. Disney has a list of Fairy Tale Honeymoons in many of their themed resorts that are amazing. The package also includes park hopper tickets for all of their theme parks. And, they also have packages that includes meals. Just make sure that you like the food that they are offering, or the restaurants that you can eat in so that you don’t ruin your honeymoon because of food neither of you like.
And don’t forget, that you can make your honeymoon a Florida trip. Miami Beach and the Keyes are gorgeous and very romantic. And there are islands off of southern Florida that you can visit on a one or two day excursion.
If you want more information about Disney Special Honeymoon Packages, just call 407.828.3400. The operators are real dolls and will help you with putting together a package that is perfect for both of you.
Don’t miss tomorrow’s blog! I’m going to cover another wonderful honeymoon destination!
And don’t forget about purchasing your unique wedding favor! Yes, wedding favors are important! The honeymoon is the time that you celebrate the beginning of your married life. This is the one time, probably for at least a year, that you will be away from everyone and all of life’s stresses and can really concentrate on each other.

But this doesn’t mean that you need to spend your life’s savings on this either. After all, it really is a vacation, so be frugal and wise when choosing where you want to go. That is, unless you’re independently wealthy! Then have a ball!

Traditionally, the honeymoon is paid for by the groom. But today, more than not, it’s a joint expense, so start planning what you both would like to do months ahead of your wedding date. Also, if you start early, and you need airfare, it will be much cheaper.

Okay, first things first. Where do you want to go? Don’t just name places, think more generally. Do you both love the ocean? Mountains? Lavish hotels? Bungalow beach huts? An all inclusive vacation? A cruise? You see…there is so much to think about.

After you’ve decided on “what” kind of honeymoon, now you have to decide where to go. There are many places that I will cover in my next blog which are very traditional honeymoon places and some not so traditional. There will be some that are expensive and some that you can enjoy yourselves with much less money.

Either way, you both have to make a decision and stick to it so that you can make concrete plans. But remember, compromise. If one of you really hates the beach and the other person loves it, I would suggest you not go there and find a place that you both love.

Tune in tomorrow! You’ll be glad you did!

Much happiness coming your way,
Bella
Unique Wedding Favors

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://weddingfavorhelp.blogspot.com/2006/09/your-honeymoon-what-should-you-do.html' title='Your Honeymoon - What should you do? I felt they were important enough to include, before I get off on another topic and they are forgotten!

Well, I’m right now on wedding #3…my son and his fiancée have now approached me re: their future wedding. Well, being originally from the east coast, now living on the west coast, they have many friends and relatives that will have to make a trip to be part of their special day. So, in essence, they are having a “destination wedding” – well, not for them, but for almost everyone else. So I told them that as soon as they decide on a venue for the reception, that they have to send out “Save the Date” postcards. What that is, is a postcard that has the picture of the bride and groom and/or the venue on the front of the card and the date and other pertinent information on the back of the postcard. These need to be sent to everyone that will be invited to your wedding and should be sent as close to a year ahead as is possible. This allows people to save money and possibly make this their personal vacation as well as attend your wedding.

Another announcement that needs to be made is to the local newspaper. This traditionally is the responsibility of the bride’s family. It’s very simple. You just put in a recent pic of the bride and groom and their wedding information.
Don’t forget, wedding invites can go out up to 2 months ahead of time. If you have a “B” list, you’ll want to send them out around that time so that when you get “no’s” you’ll be able to invite others from your secondary list.

Okay, that’s all I’m going to load you up with right now. Just a couple of important pieces of information that are hard to fit in under any other topic! Don’t forget to get your wedding favors early (had to slip that in) and all your other wedding items that you need beside that unique wedding favor. Don’t forget to check my site! I will save you tons of money. The link is below.

Have a wonderful week and take it slow…

Much happiness coming your way,
Bella
Unique Wedding Favors

Who Foots the Bill for the Wedding? Part 2

Here is your last option on who pays – YOU do! And honestly, nowadays, this is more the norm. In fact, 75% of weddings are paid for by the bride and groom. Much of the reason that this happened is that people are getting married much later in life, so they sometimes have more money than their parents saved. Or their parents are elderly at this point and they feel they should shoulder the responsibility themselves instead of saddling a large bill on their parents that are at a point where they need the dollars themselves.

There are pros to this – in fact, many. YOU are now in charge and you don’t have to feel guilty about it or end up in a war with relatives over who does what, or where it will be, or what about this and what about that! You are the final say, and believe me, that is worth every penny. The old saying goes like this “he who does not open their wallet, cannot not open their mouths”…don’t you love it! LOL Also, you can invite whomever you choose and don’t have to invite those that you don’t want to. Now, of course, you have to be gracious and invite Aunt Emily who you’ve only met once and smells to high heaven of perfume and gags you! Mom loves her, so you need to do it for mom. Yes, you still have to compromise in certain areas!

But there are cons to the bride and groom footing the bill. You are spending all of your money on this day and it will deplete your savings or run you up a really nice bill. Also, depending on the type of parents you have, you could offend them by not allowing them to help out financially, especially on the bride’s side. If that’s the case, make a couple of concessions. Let them pick out the wedding favor and purchase that – (from my website of course!) By the way, show your mom or dad this one! This is my Champagne Gel Candle! I can’t tell you how many people go crazy over this one. It says “we are celebrating!” And many people hang a personalized label around the stem. It’s very, very special and at a great price. Check it out under the term unique wedding favor.

Well, from here on in, you’re on your own re: this topic. But if you’d like more advice, or have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask. I’d love to help!

Everything will work out…it always does!

Much happiness coming your way,
Bella
Unique Wedding Favors

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://weddingfavorhelp.blogspot.com/2006/09/who-foots-bill-for-wedding-part-2.html' title='Who Foots the Bill for the Wedding? And what is amazing, is that it has even gotten MORE expensive then it was nearly 3 years ago when my last child got married. So, now we are trying to figure out how the heck to pay for this one! And, this brings me to this blog topic. Who is going to pay? Not the best topic, but we have to discuss this.

Nowadays, probably because people get married much later in life generally speaking, the bride and groom pay for much of or all of the wedding. But, there are other options, and there are pros and cons to all of them.

Traditionally, the bride’s parents pay for the wedding. What’s great about this is that they pay and you don’t start your lives with a huge bill or savings-less. BUT, (look at the caps!), normally, the one that pays, usually gets what they want. So, if you want a smaller wedding and they want more guests, guess who wins? This will help your wallet, but it may do you in emotionally. And the worse thing you want at this point in your life is to have issues with your parents or have it cause problems with your fiancée and/or future in-laws.

Okay, I’ve talked you out of that one. Another option is that it’s split between the two sets of parents and the happy couple. This works really well if you have parents that can compromise. The key to this is the personalities. This can work amazingly or it can be a disaster. Only you both know that.

What’s great about this idea is that you may be able to get more of what you want. And this will help you save money. But there is a downside to this also. Any amount of money that people put in will give them a say. That isn’t always a problem though. Many times this causes them to help out and takes pressure off the bride and groom.

There is another option though. So tuned in to tomorrow’s blog and find out!
Much happiness coming your way,

Bella
Unique Wedding Favors

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://weddingfavorhelp.blogspot.com/2006/08/who-foots-bill-for-wedding-part-1.html' title='Who Foots the Bill for the Wedding? Again, and I’ve said this several times already, remember, it is your wedding. You’re an adult, and you need to (nicely!) take control of your own life. Do what feels right to you. Get people’s suggestions, but make sure that they now, right from the getgo, that you have specific ideas and you’d like to make sure that they happen.

That being said, don’t get “stuck”. Listen to parents, relatives and friends. Give it some thought, even if it’s just for 15 minutes. Embrace their ideas, then dispose of them if, after awhile, you still don’t want to go that way. And if you respect who is saying, weigh it heavily, especially if it is suggested to you out of first hand experience.

This next suggestion is very important. After spending days upon days planning and working toward your wedding, take a weekend and get away, either alone or with a couple of friends. Honestly, this is not only good when planning a wedding, but under any stressful circumstances. You can’t imagine how your perspective changes when you get in a different environment.

Keep a sense of humor. Laugh when you want to scream. If you can do that, you will sail through this time of your life and enjoy every moment.

Don’t just plan the wedding, plan your life together! Remember, the wedding lasts one day. Hopefully, your marriage will last forever. Get together with your future spouse and promise not to discuss the wedding. Talk about your future together – if/when you’ll have kids, your careers, if you want to buy a home and when, where you’ll be living, etc. Actually, that’s more important than that swift 10 hour day.

Last but not least, get your unique wedding favors early! You don’t want to have that stress you out last minute! Hey, take a look at this one from my website. This letter opener is one of my most popular wedding favors. People will have it and think of your special day for years to come.

I got married many years ago, married off two daughters, and I’ve been an integral part of over a hundred weddings. If you listen to my advice that I have given you over the last 3 blogs, you will be shocked at the stress that will be alleviated.
Much happiness coming your way,
Bella
Unique Wedding Favors

Avoiding Wedding Disasters - Part 2

Okay – let me be pretty frank here. This is part 2 right? So I’m going to get right into it.

Mom and Dad are paying most of the bills for the wedding. They feel that since they are “dishing it out”, they are allowed to do and say what they want. This can result in the worse kind of power struggle for a young couple about to embark on a new life together. To the parents: if you’re going to pay for the wedding, then PAY for the wedding. Don’t expect doing that to give you free reign over everyone and everything. To the bride and groom: if this is what it turns into, RUN! Get married in a field of flowers on somebody’s farm before you should allow yourself to go through this torture. It’s not worth it…believe me.

Let’s talk a little bit more about money. Unfortunately, finances has probably caused more marriage breakups than any other issues. Don’t start out with yourselves in debt. If you have to charge a few things here and there, that’s fine. But make a decision how much you are going to spend and stick to it! Come up with a budget and consider that your ultimate guideline. You will thank me for this piece of advise in years to come.

To family and friends: give the future bride and groom the best gift you can give – let them be. Please be understanding. Please let them have “their” day. It seems to me that most people use those words, but truly don’t understand the meaning. Don’t try to live through them or dictate to them what you happen to want for their wedding. If they’re old enough to get married, they are old enough to make these decisions. Guidance is not dictatorship.

Yes, I know. For those that are parents and loved ones, this blog was not the most subtle. But please understand, as a wedding consultant, I’ve seen too many weddings go sour because of people’s interference. Don’t let it happen to you. Avoid this wedding disaster.

And tomorrow, besides Part 3 to this topic, I will discuss unique wedding favors. Promise!

Much happiness coming your way,
Bella
Unique Wedding Favors

Avoiding Wedding Disasters! Part 1

Oh boy…what a topic! If I wanted to, I’d spend the time sharing with you of my own wedding disaster over 25 years ago. Thank God the marriage didn’t turn out like the day did! Now that I think of it, that’s probably why I do what I do…to stop that from happening to anybody else’s wedding!

Look, the process of planning of wedding invites all kinds of disasters. It can lead to arguments with your future spouse (usually over finances), it can cause discomfort between you and those you chose for you wedding party, future in-laws issues, blah blah blah. And believe me, it happens to everyone, so for the next 3 days, I’m going to dedicate this blog to this topic. Honestly, I don’t know why I hadn’t done this sooner!

First things first – let’s talk about you, the bride. There is a reality show on TV right now called “Bridezilla”. OMG! I want to smack those girls silly. Watch this show and just do the opposite of everything they do. That in itself will alleviate tons of potential disasters.

Secondly, be careful who you give control over to. You don’t need to please anyone. This is your special day – not your mother’s, aunt’s, sister’s, friend’s or future mom-in-law’s day. It’s yours. To avoid problems, don’t say yes to everything IF you don’t agree with it just to be nice and get everyone involved. You will regret this and you will resent those that take over. Be nicely firm. You’ll be happy you did when your day rolls around.

On the other hand, ask your family and friends to help with some of the planning and running around. Those that love you will want to help. Just make sure that you keep control, especially when it has to do with the moms. I love them…in fact I am one. But I’ve seen too many weddings ruined because of in-law battles. If your mom is different, you’re blessed. Then involve her all the way, along with the aid of those that will do what you really want and not what they want.

This “bullying” from mom (and dad) can occur when they are paying for some or all of the wedding. If this begins, you need to have a ‘heart to heart’ with them. If they don’t get it, take out a loan. I promise you, you will be happier that you did in the long run.

Lastly, speaking of finances, make sure you have a budget. I broke this down in one of my archived blogs, regarding how much things will cost, etc. The average wedding today (okay, sit down) costs between $20-25,000. And, that’s the “average.” Yes, some are less, but many are more. So you have to know exactly what you want to spend and stick to it, or you will end up paying for this for many years to come.
I promise I’ll bring you Part 2 tomorrow. I’ll “see” you then!

Much happiness coming your way,
Bella
Unique Wedding Favors
P.S. You have to pick a song for the dance with you and your daddy! For a close family, this is a very touching and heartfelt time. For the opposite, this is probably drudgery, but hopefully this list will help find the appropriate song for that kind of relationship also. Definitely stay away from “Butterfly Kisses”, and lean more toward “The Way You Look Tonight”. At least that won’t get so mushy.

1 Butterfly Kisses
2 Wind Beneath My Wings
3 Unforgettable
4 Because You Loved Me
5 You Decorated My Life
6 My Girl
7 Through the Years
8 The Way You Look Tonight
9 My Special Angel
10 What A Wonderful World
11 You’re the Inspriation
12 Daughter of Mine
13 Hero
14 Isn’t She Lovely

There are many more, but these seem to be the most popular ones. Like I said, this can be a difficult moment for families, especially blended families, but you’ll get through it. We all did!

And don’t forget, check out my website. Remember, I am not just about unique wedding favors! There are so many great gifts that you can buy dad for a little thank you gift, and/or for your ushers. And the prices are amazing! Do I have to tell you that you will be kissing, kissing, kissing all day long? If you know this and more, then you will need the following tips to get your through the day looking fresh and beautiful.

I’m sure you read my tips on carrying your ‘emergency bag’ with you at all times, so I won’t repeat that. But there will be other emergencies throughout the day, from smearing your lipstick to having your bustle stuck after you went to the bathroom! Don’t shake your head, it’s happened!

So, first things first – you must assign someone to be your checker. What do I mean by that? Make sure that you have someone that will keep an eye on you all day and let you know if there is something wrong or if you need a touch-up. I would suggest it’s not someone in your wedding party because they will be very involved in the wedding. Choose someone that is very observant and is sitting fairly close to the dais table so they can see you. But, please, from experience, do not choose someone that will want to bother you every second because she wants the attention. That will totally ruin your day worse than a stuck bustle!

Make sure if you do your own make-up or if you have a make-up artist apply your make-up that you/they use waterproof make-up. You “will” cry during the day. You don’t want to have to reapply your eye and face make-up all day long. This will save you tremendously. Do the same with long-lasting lipstick. Apply it at the beginning of the day and then touch-up as needed. Before buying, just make sure it says “all day” lipcolor or something to that affect.

Lastly, the most important beauty tip is to do a ‘dry run’ with make-up and hair. If you are doing both of those yourself or having a friend do it, then it will be easy. If you are having a professional do your hair and make-up, then speak to them and see if they will do this. Normally, this is included in the price.
Hope this helps! Relax. Stress causes dark circles and bags under your eyes. So last little tip…use cold cucumber slices placed under your eyes.

Also, don't forget that my website is not just about unique wedding favors. There are many last minute emergency items on that site as well as beautiful hair ornaments! Go check it out.

Much happiness coming your way,
Bella
Unique Wedding Favors

OMG! I forgot about the wedding song!

Don’t fret, there are a million of them Just go into any record store and there are compilation cd’s that have 20 or more on them. But how did all of this start anyway?

The concept, (obviously), came from couples having a special song that was “our song” and when it came on, they would make goo goo eyes at each other! So usually, couples already have their own special song. But if you don’t, do what I said. Go to a large, record store and buy one or two of the cd’s that will list the top wedding songs. Listen to the words as well as the music, because that is what talks about the two of you and your relationship. But be careful. Go to http://www.lyrics.com/ and check out the exact words. Many songs are about breaking up and getting back together again. That just doesn’t seem to be the best song to dedicate to your new life together!

Below, is a list of ten of the most used wedding songs for that first dance for the newly married couple:

1. Nothing Compares To You - Sinead O’Connor
2. Close To You - Maxi Priest
3. Power of Love - Jennifer Rush
4. Love Me Tender - Elvis Presley
5. I Can’t Help Falling in Love with You - Elvis Presley
6. Just the Way You Are - Billy Joel
7. When You Say Nothing At All - Ronan Keating
8. From This Moment On - Shania Twain
9. You Made Me Love You - Al Jolson
10. How Deep Is Your Love - Bee Gees

Of course there are many, many more, but those seem to be used a lot of the time.

Now, you need to move onto the songs for Father/Daughter dance. This one is a tear jerker and there are many out there that are very popular also. Tomorrow, we will discuss that and I’ll give you some great suggestions.

Much happiness coming your way,
Bella
Unique Wedding Favors

P.S. What do I do?

In a perfect world, all of your bridesmaids are supposed to be there for you. They help you through gown fittings, the Bridal Shower, cold feet, ranting about expenses, etc. etc. etc. But sometimes that support system breaks down. This blog will help you navigate through the muddy waters of bridesmaid’s meltdowns. And don’t think they won’t happen to you. They will. This will help you be ready for it!

Problem #1: One of your bridesmaids (or 2 or 3 for that matter) hates the dress that you picked out. What do you do? You obviously love these girls, or you wouldn’t have chosen them for such an honor, so you don’t want to lose them as friends during the most important time of your life. So, if you aren’t totally in love with the dress, see if you can find a dress that everyone at least likes. But sometimes that’s easier said than done. Another solution is everyone having a different style dress but in the same color and fabric. This can really be very beautiful. Just please enlist the expertise of the bridal sales people who will steer you the way that it would look the best. But in the end, remember, it is your wedding and your decision. You can say this dress or no dress, and only you know how far you can go with that without losing friends. My suggestion…always try compromise first. You have many years after that one day that you will be friends with these girls, so try to work it out amicably.

Problem #2: One of your bridesmaids is knock out gorgeous with a body to boot. You are insecure. What do you do? Okay, this one is really easy. First of all, you are the bride and all eyes will be on you…PROMISE! But, if you are really insecure about this, put the girls in muted colors and not so revealing dresses. I’ve seen it done before and the bridesmaids are not the wiser. Just remember, white makes a woman glow, so you really have nothing to worry about.

Problem #3: You overhear your bridesmaid saying how they don’t have enough money for this dress. Be sensitive. They are only going to wear the dress for a few hours, and probably will never wear it again. Try to compromise. See if you can find a dress that you love that is less expensive. Also, if the dress is pricey, make sure the color will work with black shoes so that will save them there. And, make their bridesmaid’s gift a piece of jewelry so that everyone will match and it won’t cost them anything. Speaking of bridesmaid’s jewelry, you do know that my website is not just about unique wedding favors…although we are about unique wedding favors, there is so much more! Here is one of the sets that is perfect for a gift from you and makes the bridesmaids look very uniform without costing your wedding party any money.

Well, that’s your first 3 solutions to problems with bridesmaids. There will be 3 more tomorrow that will help aid you when these problems arise. Just remember, life happens…but it all passes in time.

Much happiness coming your way,
Bella
Unique Wedding Favors

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://weddingfavorhelp.blogspot.com/2006/08/bridesmaids-problems-what-do-i-do.html' title='Bridesmaid's problems! First of all, just know this – THIS IS NORMAL! Everyone gets cold feet…everyone! These feelings of anxiety, worry and concern are very normal prior to a wedding, and both the bride and the groom may experience this. Don’t concern yourself because before you know it, those feelings will pass. Reason for this is that sometimes tension and anxiety looks for a reason other than the obvious which is putting together the biggest day of your life. That in itself can blow you up! But as human beings, we look for something else. Bingo! We question the decision of saying, “I do”.

First tip – relax – breathe – go to the beach or the spa or wherever it is that you relax the best. Listen to music that helps calm you and talk it out with a parent or close friend. But, please make sure it’s someone that will be objective and realizes actually what is happening, not someone who is trying to thwart your special day. Just know that your feelings are completely normal and natural. For some reason, just thinking about that helps.

A good test of your anxiety is to take out a piece of paper and write down all of the things that are making you nervous and you are sweating over. You will soon find that they are all normal things that everyone gets concerned about and not really directed at your future spouse.

Also, if you have a married friend that has been through it, speaking to that person especially helps. They have gone down this road, and if they are completely honest, they will tell you that they went through it also. Something about knowing that others have felt the same way and understand you gets you through this time much quicker.

Next, make a list of all your fears and then all the reasons why you are marrying your partner. Normally, that puts this thing to bed. After doing this, write a love letter to your future spouse. Whether you give it to them or not is not an issue. Just do this to help you get in touch with your real feelings. Soon, they’ll come flooding out and you’ll know that this is all anxiety and it soon will pass.

Lastly, get away for the whole wedding process. I tell people that I consult on their weddings, that at least one or two days during the last few weeks, they need to walk away…go shopping…drive to the ocean…do something that will totally take them away from the craziness. You will come back a different person. That I promise you.

But, let me please take a moment here to say this. If there is any form of abuse in your relationship – emotional or physical abuse, any addictions, etc., then you have every right to call the wedding off. You are a future spouse, not a dormat, and you don’t want to enter into a permanent relationship with tons of baggage.

Please, if you have any questions, (even about your unique wedding favor *wink*), please don’t hesitate to write me at my website below. I will help any way I can.

Much happiness coming your way,
Bella
Unique Wedding Favors

Keep Your Wedding Organized!

So you’re probably wondering what I mean by keeping your wedding organized. There are many factors involved in this and remember, the more together you are with all of this from the beginning, the easier your entire planning will go.

First things first, so you need to put together a “to do” list. This should consist of everything that has to be done and priced out including your gown, tux rentals, place for the ceremony and reception, band or DJ, flowers, transportation and of course, your own unique wedding favor. (By the way, take a look at this - very classy for the bride and groom with the utmost of taste!) This personalized champagne flute unique wedding favor can have your names and wedding date engraved on them in many different colors at no extra cost. Ah, they are a thing of beauty!

Anyway, once that list is compiled, make sure you get a notebook or ledger and put each item to be tracked on the top of each page. So now, when a payment is made for the banquet hall, flowers, whatever, you will have a running total available to you. Also, on the top of each page, put the total amount due the vendor, the contact person’s name and phone, fax and email address.

Next, almost immediately, you need to prepare a guest list. Now obviously, over the months of preparation, this will change. But if you have a pretty good idea of who you want to invite, you can now compile addresses so you’ll have them for invitations for the Bridal Shower (to give to those that are giving it to you), for the wedding and for thank you cards.

Lastly, you should have a one year calendar which is broken down into months and days. This will act as your “countdown planner” and you should fill it up with what has to be completed by what date. This is indispensable and I could never do what I do without it.

Please remember, the bride and groom (especially the bride) should not feel like they have to compile these lists on their own. Ask family and close friends to help, especially if you have some that are administrative and organized. They will steer you correctly.

You have no idea how these suggestions will help you. I promise, you will drop me a note and thank me once your wedding has passed. Just know, generally speaking, that the more organized you are in the beginning, the easier time you will have at the end.

Much happiness coming your way,
Bella
Unique Wedding Favors

Don't forget your guests want to have fun too!

Yes, your wedding is about you, but it’s also about your guests! Remember, many of your memories re: this special day will include them, so keep them happy. But how you ask.
First of all, guests originally came to a wedding to be witnesses of the marriage, and pledge to do whatever they could to keep the marriage together. So much for that! Most people don’t even know why the heck they are there, except to see if the bride lost weight and what color she picked for her wedding party! Sheesh…
Okay, back to my topic. There are little things that you can do during your reception that really makes the guests feel a part of your day and keeps them happy. Not many couples do this, but it really is very touching and very important for your family and guests. The bride and groom, at some point during the reception (usually either after the first dance or at the end), should get on the microphone (preferably both should speak, for if not possible, then whoever is willing to) and thank their guests for sharing their special day with them. Also, thank the family and whoever else helped put the wedding together. What is also very touching is to openly welcome your spouse’s family into your heart and that you’re looking forward to many years of warm memories. Is it all true? Hopefully. But if it’s not, it sure would help build a bridge. But if you cannot do that, do the rest. It really makes people feel a part of your wedding day.
Another very important point to help people enjoy your wedding, is interaction amongst people who do not know each other. There are few events that bring everyone together like this, and unfortunately, they are usually marriages or funerals! I helped consult on one wedding where this was very important to the bride and groom. They went as far as to have people write something that they know about the bride or groom and bring it to the reception. Everyone placed the cards in the middle of the table and people read them throughout the day. It caused conversation to erupt and many memories and laughs to be shared. I just loved it.
Tradition dictates that the best man is the one that dedicates the first toast to the couple and wishes them well. What is also wonderful, is that he calls up people (who know they will be doing this) to share something about the couple. Many times it’s humorous. Many times it’s touching. The guests love it and the couple is even more blessed.
Your guests have come to your wedding to celebrate with you and to have fun. Besides enjoying the beautiful unique wedding favor that is sitting on the table (*wink*), walk around to each table, thank the guests there for coming and encourage them to get up and dance. Guests usually only need a little encouragement (especially from the bride and groom) and they will be on the dnce floor all night long. Also, if the funds allow, you could bring in someone that will lead dances, show people how to do them and also help encourage people to get up and enjoy themselves.
People look for an excuse to enjoy themselves. Help them along with the above suggestions. And don’t forget, you’re supposed to have fun too!
Much happiness coming your way,
Bella
Unique Wedding Favors

The wedding cake! What do I do?

The wedding cake! Should we just wink and not worry about it? NO! Every part of your special day is…well…special, including the wedding cake. These delicacies have been around for centuries and have become a tradition around the world to help celebrate the union of the wedding couple.

Originally, it was eaten with the groom to bestow fertility on them in their married life. The cutting of the cake was to symbolize the loss of virginity by the bride. But today, the first bite of the cake being fed to each other by the couple symbolizes the promises they’ve made to each other, and the new life they are about to begin together. Also, the top tier of the cake was traditionally kept and used at the birth of the couple’s first child or on their first wedding anniversary. For many, that tradition still hold today.

Years ago, the idea of the wedding cake was typical. A tiered round white cake with butter cream frosting. Not so anymore. There are many very unique ideas that can really be a focal point of the wedding, especially when places at the front of the bride and groom.

For example, many couples are opting for a heart shaped wedding cake instead of the typical round or square. Also, if you are having a garden wedding, a cake in the shape of a rose petal, with roses on the cake and rose petals sprinkled around the table is absolutely breathtaking!

And don’t forget that you don’t have to have just a vanilla or chocolate cake. At my last daughter’s wedding, we had a cannoli cream cake and I’ve been to weddings where there was rum cake, strawberry filling cakes, etc. Today, anything goes.
But personally, what I think is most beautiful, (and this is VERY easy to accomplish) is to order a white tiered cake with whatever type of trimmings you want on it. Then, when the bride decides what type of flower bouquet she is carrying, just order some extra flowers from the florist of the same color/type, etc. Have them delivered that morning to the bakery or banquet hall liason and have them placed on the tiers of the cake. When the cake is displayed in front of the bride and groom, have the bride place her bouquet right next to the cake on the same table. Gorgeous! And very classy! And very inexpensive! What could be better?

And, one last thing – don’t forget that if you love wedding cakes and want to incorporate that into your theme, we have the most unique wedding favor. Check this out! Candle Wedding Cake unique wedding favor! And they come with a 2” stand to place them on! Geez, I love this one!
Okay, that’s all the writing Bella is going to do for now! Hope you got some ideas about your wedding cake. Cut the Wedding list! But how?

Before we get into this, make sure you cut costs in all the ways I’ve given you previously. After all, this is your special day and you want as many special people to be there that you are able to have.

First of all, you must invite the close relatives of the bride and groom. Then, of course, you must also invite friends. Next, business associates that mean enough to you to have them there, as well as close friends of both parents. It would seem like that last group could be cut, but please remember, the bride and groom’s parents have a special part in this day and will really want the friends they love to be there. I would never cut those people, but then again, I’m a parent!

Be careful when it comes to family. We invited my daughter and her fiancee’s aunts, uncles and first cousins. If you make a rule like that, then you have to apply it across the board. If you start picking and choosing, you will surely offend people big time! But, if that’s what you want to do, then do it, but know that it just is not proper etiquette.

But what about inviting a friend and they want to bring their boy/girlfriend? Make a rule and stick to it. If you’re going to allow that for one person, then you really should allow it for everyone. What we did was if the person was obviously going to marry that person, or if it was a very long standing relationship, or if they were engaged, then they were invited. This cut 20 people from our guest list that people wanted to have come with them. Right there, that’s a huge savings!
What about kids? That is totally a subjective decision. In our case, we allowed only children that were part of my daughter’s and her fiancee’s immediate family. That worked for us. If people are bold enough to ask if they can bring their children, explain, very nicely, that you are not allowing kids at the wedding, because if you allow one family to do that, everyone else will get offended. Then explain that the only children that will be there are close family.

We have had a dilemma in the past in a wedding that I was consulting on, where the bride’s family was paying for the wedding, and the groom’s family was demanding a ton of guests to be present. If it’s a reasonable request and is just a couple of extra people, for the sake of future relations, I would allow it, if financially feasible. If they want to invite a huge number of guests, be very honest with them (keeping the future bride and groom out of the middle of this) and tell them that you can’t afford that many extras. Explain to them that you cut your own guest list because of that. But also tell them that you don’t mind if they invite 100 extra guests, but if they do, perhaps they could consider paying for them. That should do the trick. They will either shut up or pay up…either way, you win. Please know though, I’m not picking on the groom’s parents. It could also happen the other way around!

Hopefully these guest cutting tips will help you. And hey, if you have tons of money, invite anyone and everyone! Just make sure that those that you really want to share your special day with are there. It makes all the difference in the world.

Much happiness coming your way,
Bella
Unique Wedding Favors

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://weddingfavorhelp.blogspot.com/2006/08/cutting-costs-cut-wedding-list-but-how.html' title='CUTTING COSTS? Ask me…after two daughter’s have gotten married! Ah…best laid plans of mice and men! But, today, I’m going to give you some tips that I’ve used and absolutely work! But before we get there, let me give you an approximate percentages that should be allotted for each item that you have to purchase.

Rings – 15%
Bridal Gown/Accessories – 5%
Invitations – 2%
Photography/Videography – 10%
Music – 5%
Flowers – 5%
Honeymoon – 14%
Misc. Items – 7%
These, of course, are approximations. But now that you have an idea of that, let me show you how to cut that WAY down!
First of all, let’s take the reception. Most people do not know this, but if you get married on a holiday (i.e. Columbus Day, Labor Day, Memorial Day, etc.) your cost per plate can be cut in half or even more than half. When my 2nd daughter got married 2 years ago (and this is NO exaggeration), we were quoted the price of $125 per plate plus tax and tip. This included hors d’oeuvres, hot and cold, during the appetizer hour, plus a choice of 4 different entrees (high end stuff!) and dessert which was assorted pastries and the wedding cake. Well, I asked him how much it would be if she got married on the Monday of Columbus Day. After questioning each other back and forth, he gave me a price of $45 per plate!!! How’s that for savings?
Also, this works for Friday the 13th also, but unfortunately, not as well as on a holiday. Reason for that is the place usually will book a ‘sweet 16’ or a shower or something else on that night. But even with this day, there is some wiggle room, if you know what I mean.
Now, you could combine saving on flowers and the reception if you’d like to get married either right before or right after Christmas. Last year, I consulted on a wedding that was the day before New Year’s Eve. And honestly, it was one of the most beautiful weddings ever. They saved big time on flowers, because it was already decorated with gorgeous Christmas decorations and winter displays. So, with their budget, all I put on the tables was a beautiful poinsettia with ribbons on it and a winter unique wedding favor. In fact, I used this one.
I placed them all around the poinsettia plant. The tablecloths were a rich, deep green. Also, I sprinkled some white snowflake confetti on the tablecloth surrounding the favors and the poinsettia. It was probably the most beautiful “slim” budget wedding I’ve ever done.
A big saver is using a D.J. and not a live band. This can cut the cost of music to less than half what live music will cost you. But, be VERY specific about what you want from them If you want a major party atmosphere with noisemakers, etc. or something more quiet, let them know. And make sure it’s in the contract.
Regarding the wedding reception dinner, remember that a buffet is less expensive than a sit-down formal dinner. And the choices you make on that buffet, can lower it even more. A rule of thumb, more meat, more cost - more pasta and non-meat dishes, less cost. Don’t let them give you a set price for what they offer. Deal with them. Ask them if they remove this certain dish and replace it with this other one, what could you save?
There are many more tips to save money, and I will be addressing them in future blogs. But I think I gave you enough to work on! You’ll be shocked at the amounts you can save if you heed my suggestions.
Much happiness coming your way,
Bella
Unique Wedding Favors

Wedding Videography - Cherish for a lifetime!

I know. I know. You’re running out of money! But as I’ve said before, skimping on photography/videography shouldn’t be where you tighten the purse strings. After all, everything else is just for the day. This is forever.

If you really want to have some amazing memories of your day, consider a videographer in addition to a regular photographer. Actually, if you can only afford one, I would go with an amazing videographer. Why? Well, they can take all the footage you want from you getting dressed, right through getting into your car to leave for your honeymoon. And don’t forget, you can take the video footage and make still photos out of them.

But here’s my warning! If you do that, make sure there are disposable cameras on each guests table at the wedding. And yes! I do have those on my site! Well, did you think all I carried was unique wedding favors? This is a cutie. You can’t see it here, but it’s “pearlized white” and is a really nice addition to your guests table. Then at least this way, you are sure of getting all the still shots you want of your guests.

Also, don’t forget. With a videographer, you will get a cd of your wedding day, and be able to send it around the world for your family and friends to see. It’s just an up close and personal look at your wedding day, with all the sights and sounds that you really would like to remember.

Just PLEASE remember, you have to find a qualified and reputable videographer that has tons of experience doing weddings. In fact, word of mouth is the best way to hire someone. Don’t hire your cousin’s sister’s best friend’s brother! I promise that you will regret it, and you can never get that day back!

You can add your wedding song to special parts of the video and anything else that you would like to incorporate into it. Also, don’t forget to give him/her a list of people (and what tables they are at) to interview during the reception or prior to or immediately after the ceremony.

By the way, make sure that everything you want is in contract form, signed by you and the videographer. EVERYTHING should be in there including all your special requests for people to be interviewed, what is to be covered during the day, what lighting you want, what you want during the ceremony to be covered, etc. etc. etc. Make sure everything is spelled out perfecting. Don’t forget the first dance, cutting the cake, tossing the bouquet, and any other moments that you want to make sure he gets. This is true even if you are having a photographer as well as a videographer.

Lastly, don’t forget to ask about a guarantee. What if the person you hired has an emergency or can’t make it because of illness? Who replaces them? Are they the same quality videographer? You have to make sure that you have the name and number and email address of both the videographer and the back-up person. The last thing you need is to be worried about this on your wedding day. And really, you should designate someone that is close to you, to be like your wedding consultant. That’s the person that needs to take care of all of this last minute craziness!

Enjoy your day. Everything will be taped and you will be blessed by the results that you will be able to show your kids and grandkids!

Much happiness coming your way,
Bella
Unique Wedding Favors

Bridal Shower Tips & Advice

I know that mostly brides to be will be reading this blog, but perhaps you can print it out and hand it to whomever is organizing your Bridal Shower. Or just leave it hanging around the house for your mom, sister, friends, to see.

These tips have been compiled through my experience with my own daughter’s showers as well as helping to plan others. Heed them when you can. Many of them will save you a lot of work and be a lot of fun.

1. As the Bridal Shower guests arrive, have a beautiful “sign in” book there for them. Here they can write a beautiful thought that you will cherish for years to come. In fact, there is a guestbook and pen set on my website that is on sale for so little you won’t even believe it. I just hope by the time you read this, it’s still on sale! Check it out and many more!
2. So how do you get all the addresses for the thank you cards. A bridesmaid should stand next to the sign in book. As guests arrive, after they sign in, she should hand them a 3 x5 card to put their name and current address on. Then have a colorful cardboard box with a slit on the side available for them to put it in. Halfway through the shower, you choose a name and they get a prize, and you have all their names and addresses for thank you cards!
3. Before the shower itself, fill out name tags for each guest but make it more personal. For example, Bella, Mother of the Bride. Or Louise, Bride’s Aunt. Things like that using Friend, Cousin, whatever. This makes the shower more personal and people get to know each other easier.
4. In the Bridal Shower invitation, tell the guests to bring a recipe on a recipe card with their name on it and where they got the recipe from. Buy a recipe book and as the shower is in progress, pass it around and have everyone slip there’s in the book. It’s very practical and also a wonderful keepsake.
5. Compile a list of the bride’s favorite songs on a couple of cd’s. Have them played during the shower. It’s very personal and the bride will love it!
6. Consider having a “Tea” instead of a full-blown lunch or dinner. They usually take place mid-afternoon on a Saturday or Sunday and are very elegant and much less expensive. They are the up and coming thing to do now. Also, you HAVE to check out our Teapot Unique Wedding Favor OR Bridal Favor. That’s a Collector’s Replica Teapot that is exclusive to Designs to Remember. I just LOVE that one!
7. Put a disposable camera on each table so that you will have pictures of all the guests at each table. This is normally done for weddings and not showers which doesn’t make much sense to me. Because at a wedding you have a photographer. Normally at a shower you do not. So a camera here, makes more sense. No?
8. Make sure the Maid or Matron of Honor toasts the bride. This seems to be a forgotten tradition that really is beautiful and can be very touching. And if it’s a small bridal party, perhaps each person could say something about the bride. Or they could even recall a funny moment in planning the shower…whatever…just something charming and personal to the bride-to-be.

That’s it from here for now. Hope these little tips helped a bit. Just plan ahead. Think it all through and you will have a very successful Bridal Shower.

Much happiness coming your way,
Bella
Unique Wedding Favors

Awesome tips for the Bride!

Remember, this is your day. Enjoy it. It will pass quickly.

1. If possible, shop for flowers, music and favors early. These are the things that always seem to cause a problem. Be very specific about the flowers that you want. If you are general, you will get whatever they have on hand at that time.

2. When putting together your wedding list, have an A and B list. The A’s being “have to” invite, and the B’s being “if there’s room”.

3. Get invitations out very early. At least 2 months in advance of the date. This way, if people decline, you can invite some people from your B list. This is a cute one off of our affiliate website. Isn't it great?

4. Don’t spend extra money on a lavish wedding cake, unless you have the money to do so. Most of the guests will never remember what it looked like anyway.

5. Make sure you have contracts and agreements for everyone you’ve hired. Also, make sure you are very specific about your wants, i.e. you want a lot of ballads and oldies, but not hard rock, or whatever. If you have the patience and time, it is wise to ask the DJ or band for a list of what they do, and then cross out what you definitely don’t want them to play.

6. Secure your marriage license early. And don’t forget to have it on you the day of the wedding. Yes, I’ve seen it happened, where the bride and groom could not be married because of this!

7. Don’t forget, what is usually remembered at a wedding is the food, music and of course, the favor. This Heart Measuring Spoons is one of our most unique wedding favor. The way it looks, it will brighten up your guests tables and because of the quality, they will use them for years, always remembering your special day!

8. MAJOR TIP! When speaking to banquet halls, florists, limo companies, photographers, etc. ask them if you can be advertising for them. If you don’t mind, tell them that they can put their cards on the guests table, or they can use you to advertise their product. Many times you can secure a nice discount if they agree.

9. Always, unless absolutely impossible, accompany bridesmaids to their fittings. This will insure that they do not alter the dresses to be too tight, short, loose, etc.

10. If you have children under the age of 4 in your wedding party, please make sure that you couple them with someone older that can walk with them down the aisle.

11. Be careful not to stay up too late the night before the wedding. Especially if it is a morning ceremony. Stress can keep you awake. If you are unable to sleep, and wake up with circles or bags under your eyes, try a little Preparation H rubbed on the area, then cover with a slice of cool cucumber. Lie down, close your eyes, and place the cucumber slice directly over your eye. Breath deeply and lie there for 15 minutes. You’ll wake up a new person with bags gone!

12. Make sure you tightly secure fake rings to the wedding pillow. Then make sure that the best man has the real thing! And what a cute wedding pillow we have on our unique wedding favor site! Look at this cutie. Talk about different!

13. A few days before the wedding day, call all the hired vendors and verify the day of your wedding, the time of the ceremony and any other pertinent information.

14. Have attendants arrive at least 30 minutes before the photographer is due to arrive. People are always late, and you don’t want to miss any important shots. Also, for those that arrive early, have coffee and bagels, rolls or muffins on a table for them as they wait. Don’t buy donuts or pastry with powdered sugar or jelly inside. You will run the risk of them getting it on their tux and gowns.

15. Be careful with your bridal gown. Never iron it. If there are wrinkles, call the center where it was purchased and they’ll have you bring it in to steam it. Also, never eat in your gown, or apply make-up with it on. It should be the last thing you do before your photographer arrives.

16. Always have a panic bag! This should include a needle and thread, hair pins and clips, an extra pair of panty hose, nail polish, hard candy, gum, mints, extra make-up AND a headache remedy and stomach antacid! Here's one that you can use that is inexpensive and oh so adorable!

The day has arrived. Don’t sweat the small stuff. Everything doesn’t always go the way they were planned. Don’t let it ruin your day. Usually, no one notices but you anyway. Laugh it off and enjoy. Before you know it, you’ll be planning your kids wedding!

These tips are all from my website. Hope they were of help to you.
Have a very wonderful day.
Much happiness coming your way,
Bella
Unique Wedding Favors

Wedding Tips! These are priceless!

First, let’s talk about the couple…the bride and groom…after all, this IS their special day. So what do you get each other that you can afford (after dropping a huge amount of the wedding!) that will be something to remember forever? How about naming a star after your sweetheart? Go to this website http://www.starregistry.com and you will get all the details. This is truly an eternal gift for under $50!

Are you sick of the same place cards that you see at every wedding? Then do what we did. Get yourself some heavier stock parchment paper. Now lay out on your computer (in a beautiful calligraphy-type font) the menu for the day. Fold it like a pamphlet. Now go to a stationary or paper goods store and find fancy gold-embossed labels. Write each person’s name on the labels and stick onto each menu card. Finish by wrapping them in satin ribbon or white tulle. On the greeting table as the guests walk in, have them laid out alphabetically. The guest’s LOVE this. And this works especially well if your guests have a choice of what they will have for the reception dinner. This way they can plan ahead.

If you are Catholic, you will love this. If you send one of your wedding invitations to the Vatican, along with a donation, they will send you a papal blessing. It takes a couple of months, so if you do it early enough, you can have your best man read it at the reception during the toast.

Don’t have your guests throw rice or confetti at the end of the ceremony…use bubbles! It really has become the new thing for weddings. Here is one of the bottle styles that we have on my website. And you thought all I had on there was unique wedding favors!!! These are so precious to hand out to the ceremony guests as they come in - especially if you have a cute little boy and girl at the door holding them in a basket. That’s what we did and our guests talked about it for a long time.

This one I love! When we did this, I actually got calls from the guests. Designate one person to take a picture of each guest or couple as they arrive at the wedding reception. When you send out your thank you cards, you include their picture. What a personal touch that your guests will not soon forget.

Are you stuck for a centerpiece that won’t cost you your arm and your groom’s leg? Go to my website and under Mikasa favors, look at the beautiful crystal bowls that are there. They are very inexpensive and make beautiful centerpieces. All you have to do is buy faux or real rose petals (colored to match your wedding party) and floating candles. Fill the bowl with water ¾ full. Float 3 candles and flower petals on the top of the water. Place in the center of each table. Light the candles and take some of the same rose petals and place them on the table, spread around the centerpiece. Absolutely gorgeous!

These are only a few very unique ideas. And speaking of unique…don’t forget to check out our unique wedding favors. There are hundreds to choose from. And if you have a question for me, leave me a message on the site and I’ll get back to you lickety split!

Much happiness coming your way,
Bella
Unique Wedding Favors

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://weddingfavorhelp.blogspot.com/2006/08/wedding-tips-these-are-priceless.html' title='Wedding Tips! It can be a headache!

Wedding transportation – the big question – how many cars do you need – what kind do you want to use – should you even get limos or something else – how much money should you spend on this???

This can all be a big headache, if you don’t go about it the right way.

First things first – how many people do you want to transport in chauffeur driven cars or limos? This can be from as little as the bride and groom all the way to transporting them, their parents, attendants, grandparents, etc. If you want to save money, then just have the bride and groom in a car or limo. Remember, there are many different kinds of cars, town cars and limos. To save money, if you want to transport everyone, go with an older limo. But make sure you check how much the stretch stretch limo costs. In the long run, it may save money by having everyone in the same car.

Also, you can hire a limo and driver just to the ceremony. Or you can hire them to the ceremony and reception and then they leave. In this case, you have to make sure someone drives your car there so you have transportation to the hotel or airport. And lastly, you can have them for you for the entire day and they will drive you wherever you need to go after the reception. But be careful. If you only want them to drive you to the ceremony, you may be paying the same amount of money that it would cost for them to drive you to the reception also. Many limo companies have minimums and you will pay that whether it’s 30 minutes or 3 hours.

Make sure you call the limo companies the day before the wedding to confirm the pickup times and locations. The worse thing that could happen is to have all your attendants waiting and no one there to bring them or the bride to the ceremony.

When you speak to a transportation company, make sure you ask a few important questions:

1. What color limos do they have? Some brides want white, while others prefer black. Make sure that is stipulated.
2. How old are the limos? You should be paying less for the older, smaller ones, unless it is a vintage limo. In that case, you’ll probably pay more.
3. Is the chauffeur in uniform?
4. Do you have to give the driver a tip as well as pay the company, or is it included in the price?
5. Is the price less if we get more than one car?
6. What is included in the price? There may be champagne, snacks, whatever. My advice to you, if they do include these things, is to ask them to eliminate them. I’ve seen far too many weddings ruined because the attendants were intoxicated at the ceremony. And snacks can ruin the bridesmaid’s gowns. Just a thought.
Just remember, if the funds are tight, this is one area that does not affect your guests, so it’s a good place to cut. I’ve never heard anyone comment about limos in a wedding…ever! I’ve heard about the food. I’ve heard about the music. Limos…never.
Don’t leave booking this until last. Figure it all out as soon as possible. If you’re getting married at a popular time of the year, you don’t want to be left with nothing to choose from.

Hope this helped. So happy you’ve gotten this far.
Much happiness coming your way,
Bella
Unique Wedding Favors

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://weddingfavorhelp.blogspot.com/2006/08/wedding-transportation-yes-it-can-be.html' title='Wedding Transportation - Yes! Listen to Bella, there are so many different ways to go that it will make your head spin. But, again, if we are talking budget, then a D.J. (disc jockey) is the way to go. Now don’t feel too badly about that (and maybe you really want a d.j., then it’s all good), because d.j.’s can be awesome. They can provide you and your guests with every kind of music imaginable and play you your favorite songs all night long. There are also packages that provide more of an entertainment aspect with hats and big glasses, Caribbean music, etc. etc. etc…the sky is the limit with many of them.

But, that may not be your cup of tea. Speaking of tea…sorry for the detour…but I just discovered that we are the only people on the internet that offers these adorable teapot wedding favors. These are the most unique wedding favors you will find and they will go with any kind of music!

Okay, back to what I was saying. If you prefer, at the wedding reception you can have a 3-10 piece band. Or you might want to hire a harpest or a flute duo or string quartet. As I said, the ky is the limit if your budget has no limit.

I went to a wedding once that during the cocktail hour there was a small jazz trio and then they had a live band for the reception. But what was so unique, was that when the band took breaks, there was a d.j. who played music and got the people up to dance. It was very different and very enjoyable.

Just remember, this is totally up to you, your taste and your budget. Anything goes musically, from karaoke to a live band…jazz…classical or even reggae and disco. After all, even down to the band, it should all be about what the couple that is getting married prefers. The only exception here, and I see this quite frequently, is accommodating some of your special guests. For example, if you have many older Italian couples attending, you might want to add some of the songs that they know and love. You can tailor the reception to any of your guests which is always a nice added touch.

Don’t forget! You have to have a first dance song whether you have a band or a d.j. This is a very special, sentimental moment when the bride and groom dance together, alone on the dance floor for the first time. If you hire a band, just make sure they can play the song before you hire them. In our case, we hired the band well in advance and when they didn’t know the song my daughter and future son-in-law wanted, they told me that they would learn it and that it would sound perfect.

Well, now you have the lowdown on all the possibilities that you have with regards to music. You can get as creative as you want with bands, trumpeters, jazz duos, concert pianists, etc. If you can afford them, you will get them. Just make sure that if you go with live entertainment, you hear them before you hire them! Do not hire them because you heard them at someone else’s wedding. They may have changed singers, musicians, etc. and may not have the same sound. Word to the wise: go to hotels that have the wedding nights and listen to many different bands. Don’t hire the first one that you like. Remember, this is your special day. You’ll never have this day again. And music fills the ears of your guests all during that day. Make sure they sound just like you want them to.
Okay…now you’re equipped to make a decision re: the music for your wedding! Now go get ‘em!

Have a wonderful, musical journey.
Much happiness coming your way,
Bella
Unique Wedding Favors

Flowers and arrangements. How can I save money here?

One of the most painful moments in planning a wedding, is when you are sitting in the florist’s store picking out your beautiful bouquet and church and table arrangements and then the estimate is handed to you. Okay, breathe…breathe…
Remember, there are ways to get around that huge expense. And honestly, if there was one place I would cut to a minimum, it would be with the florist. Why? Because there are many ways to get around it. For example, substitute less expensive flowers for the ones that they put in the bouquets. When my last daughter got married, she wanted roses and she wanted high table arrangements! Very expensive! So this is what we did. Her bouquet was very important to her, so it was full of red roses, but the rest of the flowers were not. The bridesmaids held a single rose and there wasn’t a rose to be found in the centerpieces or church bouquets. We had lots of baby’s breath filler and found flowers that matched her colors but were very inexpensive for the tables. But, the baby’s breath was gorgeous. For the head table, we added a few roses to match her bouquet.
We had the florist add ribbons hanging off each high centerpiece. To save more money, we alternated a high centerpiece with a low one. And really, it looked even better. It gave the room some dimension.
Also, what is a beautiful centerpiece is a gorgeous medium sized glass bowl filled with water (possibly with colored stones at the bottom) and float inexpensive flowers. It really is very elegant. We have a Mikasa bowl, nearly 9” in diameter, which is absolutely gorgeous to do this with. This is it. The picture doesn’t do it justice. Also, you could do something that would serve as a centerpiece and be a wedding favor for your guests to take home. These monogrammed candles (with the first letter of your ‘new’ last name) can surround an inexpensive Mikasa vase (check it out on our website) with a single rose in it. Very elegant and very beautiful. The candles formed in a circle around the vase help form the centerpiece and really are a very unique wedding favor. Your guests will love it and you’ll save TONS of money!
Regarding the church, buy yards of tulle (at a discount fabric store) and drape it along the pews or chairs hooking one to the other on the aisle side. This brings such a beautiful feel and touch to the room, that the amount of flowers you need can be very limited.
Use your imagination. Browse all over our wedding favor and accessory website. I promise you will save tons of money. If you’d like even more money saving ideas with respect to saving money on centerpieces, just email us at www.designstoremember.com and I’ll write you back with more money saving tips! No skimping here, PLEASE!

Yes, this is another shot from my daughter's wedding. I love sharing these with you. Okay, enough of that. On to this VERY important topic...Wedding Photographers!

So you announce your wedding and your uncle tells you that he has a friend that has just opened his own wedding photography business and he knows he can get it done for you for nothing or next to nothing. Wow! How can you resist? STOP!!! Be very careful. I love family, but do not fall into the "I can get you such a deal" trap when it comes to your wedding pictures. Why? Because you will never be able to duplicate this day, EVER again! I don't care if you get married 3 more times. You'll never have this specific day again. If your uncle says that to you, tell him you'd like to see his work and speak to others that have used him. If that doesn't go over well...well...you got your answer!

For me, I look at it this way. I have a Wedding Favor and other Bridal Accessory Business. Now I know that I have the most unique wedding favors at the best prices on the web. So why doesn't everyone come to me? I don't have a clue. But sometimes people make the decision to buy something cheaper thinking that they will make out better in the end. Then when they get the wedding favor and it's garbage and the company won't stand behind their product, they not only spent the money for those that they aren't going to use, but now have to spend more money to buy another wedding favor! Now, consider that scenario with photography. The only difference is, you don't get a 2nd chance there. If they blow your wedding, that's it. No regrouping or recapturing those precious moments. So please, for me, don't skimp on this. Skimp on flowers - even on your gown. NOT on the photographer!

Also, please consider having a camera on every table at the reception. This allows your guests to capture moments that you will never see, as well as having photos of every person that was at your wedding. We went beyond that. We handed out several cameras as people walked into the ceremony and had them take pictures, from their vantage point, of different aspects of that time. They handed them back to us after the ceremony was over and when we developed them, some of the most precious moments of the day were caught on film. Take a scoot over to my website. There are many adorable cameras to choose from. This is one of my favorites. Guess it's the hearts on it!

Ihope, through this post, that I've convinced you of the necessity of a good photographer and making sure your memories are in good hands. Tomorrow I'm going to give you many tips about photography and how to save money as well as make sure you look your best in those treasured photos.

Have a blessed day.
Much happiness coming your way,
Bella
Unique Wedding Favors

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://weddingfavorhelp.blogspot.com/2006/07/wedding-photography-no-skimping-here.html' title='Wedding Photography. What? Who would want to get married on a beach? ME!

Okay, okay...now you think Bella is crazy! Well I'm not. Just sometimes a hopeless romantic! But honestly, I think if I had to do it again, I would have a beach wedding. Well, considering my Italian extended family almost ruined my wedding singlehandedly - can you blame me? I think at this point I would just find an amazing beach somewhere in the world - invite all my friends and relatives - and who makes it does and the rest...well...let's just leave it at that!

But seriously, beach weddings are the up and coming thing. More and more people I speak to are opting for either a wedding on a beach close to them, or just flying to an exotic, warm, sunny place where they will honeymoon, and getting married right there. There isn't anything much more romantic than that. These weddings are the most relaxed and casual I've ever been to. And, the setting is so serene and beautiful that it can be a bit overwhelming. And when I say casual, I don't mean that the bride and groom are dressed like a couple of hippy throwbacks and that I attended wearing a swimsuit and flipflops! The "feel" of the wedding is more relaxed probably because the bride and groom are in a setting that allows them to be more themselves and not act like two people who are on display.

If you don't have the money to fly to an exotic island, there are plenty of ways to have a "beach" style wedding right where you are. There are many local parks, small resorts, local hotels on the water that you can rent the property from for the day. Also, if you don't live near the ocean, a beautiful lake wedding can be breathtaking.

Also, your beach wedding should include food and drinks, centerpieces, and of course a unique wedding favor, all in the beach theme. This wedding favor is one of our most popular unique wedding favors for beach weddings. Aren't they adorable? These flip flops are place card holders or picture holders.

But those aren't all we have. Wait, here's one more! This is our Adirondack chair tealight and place card holder wedding favor! I just love this stuff! Okay...enough is enough. Just go to our website. There are TONS more!

So, I've convinced you. You're considering a beach wedding. But where? I've got lots of suggestions here. How about places in Florida, such as Clearwater Beach, Sand Key Beach, Siesta Key, Treasure Island, Tampa, Cocoa Beach, Daytona Beach, Melbourne Beach Pensacola Beach, Navarre Beach, Fort Walton Beach, Okaloosa Island, and Destin. And that's just Florida. Also, don't forget the Caribbean, Fiji, Tahiti, Southern California, Hawaii...and on and on and on. It would take my entire blog to list them all. And here's a bit of a tip if you're considering it. Many times it will end up less expensive than a full blown wedding in a banquet hall! And don't forget. No airfare to get to your honeymoon. You're already right there. Or if guests have decided to make this their vacation also, it can just be a short drive or quick plane ride to someplace very closeby to allow you more privacy.

Okay, now I've messed up your head. Should you even consider this? Of course! Consider everything. But bottom line...it's YOUR wedding. Do what feels right to you, not what feels right to all the voices around you. And remember, it's one of the most important days of your life. Be happy. Enjoy. Before you know it, this time will have passed and will be nothing but a distant memory.

Much happiness coming your way,
Bella
Unique Wedding Favors

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://weddingfavorhelp.blogspot.com/2006/07/beach-wedding-what-who-would-want-to.html' title='A Beach Wedding! Help!!!!!

It’s that time! Many of you ladies have waited much of your life for this moment! No longer just a bridesmaid, you are now the bride! You are ready to shop for the most amazing dress…the ultimate wedding gown that anyone has ever had! So what do you do first? Take it from Bella…decide how much you can afford and STICK TO THAT BUDGET! Yeah, yeah, you all agree. Now wait until you get into the bridal store and then watch how you justify the ‘few hundred dollars’ more. After all, you’re only getting married once right? Well, let’s hope…fingers crossed!

Let me help you by steering you in the right direction and by offering you tips to save some money. And no, I'm not going to tell you that we have some of the best, nicest, highest quality and least expensive unique wedding favors anywhere, so don't worry about that! Okay, back to our regularly scheduled programming!

But know this, you will definitely get much better service from a well known, established, full service bridal shop. If you go to the warehouse discount bridal store, you will save money but be careful. You want to make sure you aren’t buying the dress that is hanging there. And if you are, it better be at a very hefty discount and they better guarantee cleaning in writing. Also, DO NOT let their seamstresses altar your gown. Bring it to a private person. Yes, it will cost a bit more, but you won’t be hysterical crying 3 days before your wedding day when you try your dress on and it looks like a Hawaiian Moo Moo!

And buyer beware! It is illegal for these places to remove labels from wedding dresses. They do this so they can tell you it’s from this designer or that designer. It’s the ole “bait and switch”. Do not fall for it! If the store has no labels in their dresses, WALK OUT! It will save you tons of heartache.

Always check either by phone or online with the Better Business Bureau and see if there has been any action taken against the wedding or bridal shop. There are many listed. You would be shocked. But you can’t fool with this. You HAVE to have your bridal gown for your wedding day and have it beautiful and fitting properly. Then, on the internet, check out RipOffReport.com – that will help you decide on where to shop for your gown.

And remember also, you do not need to get your gown, veil, shoes, bra, jewelry, etc. from the same place. You can get your gown from the place that has the wedding gown you love, but then zip over to the discount bridal place for your accessories. Don’t get caught up in the emotions of buying it all right there. The jewelry, shoes, etc. are usually WAY overpriced at a wedding shop. This is a tiara from our website. High quality/low price.

Okay, go for it girl! You are armed and ready with some vital information.

Remember, this is a defining moment in your life. Enjoy it. Don’t rush it. And bring those that you love and love you with you when you go. It can be an experience that you will cherish forever. By the way, that is my daughter and her husband that got married a few years ago. Just wanted to share that with you. :-)

Much happiness coming your way,
Bella
Unique Wedding Favors

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://weddingfavorhelp.blogspot.com/2006/07/infamous-wedding-gown-help.html' title='The Infamous Wedding Gown! How do you...

So it's time to pick out your invitations. My suggestion is that you do this VERY early; even right after picking out your gown and securing your reception area. The reason being that it is one of the things that can fly under the radar and you'll forget about. And it can't be forgotten about because then you will have no guests to celebrate with you!

There are many beautiful wedding invitations to choose from. Some are very simple. Some are more elaborate. My first daughter that got married had a much more "princessish" (is that a word? LOL) wedding and her invitation portrayed that. My second daughter was more formal but less lavish, even with her gown. So she chose a simple invitation which was made formal because of purchasing a satin lined envelope and having a ribbon adorning the invitation itself. By the way, we have some gorgeous invitations to choose from, and we'll help you with what should be written inside if you'd like also.
What I've posted here are just two of many designs that we have. In fact, one of hundreds. So go and browse and see if there's something that we can help you with. Okay, back to what I was saying!

When invitations get complicated is when there is more than one parent or sets of parents or any other combination. What and how do you write the inscription on the invitation? But do not fear...we have the answer. As a very general rule, the parents who are paying for the invitations (and usually a good portion of the wedding) are the ones that should be issuing the invitation. One way to accomplish both is:

Mr. and Mrs. John Doe
request the honour of your presence
at the marriage of their daughter
Ms. Jane Jean Doe
to
Mr. Groom's Full Name
Son of Mrs. New Husband's Name (or) Son of Mr. and Mrs. New Husband's Name
and Mr. Groom's Father's Name (or) and Mr. and Mrs. Groom's Father's Name

The last line is where you can add whomever you choose. This is nice, clean and nobody gets offended or left out.

An invitation is a beautiful thing. It's very personal and should emulate what the wedding will be like and even the colors that the bride and groom may go with for their special day. Don't jump at the first thing you see. Browse through our collection of invitations especially made for Designs to Remember. Hopefully we can help you relieve one less burden, knowing that they will be perfectly done.

Be blessed...enjoy these moments, they pass quickly.
Much happiness coming your way,
Bella
Unique Wedding Favors

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://weddingfavorhelp.blogspot.com/2006/07/wedding-invitation-how-do-you.html' title='The Wedding Invitation! And so did my girls when they got married. Except, when my oldest daughter got married, her youngest sister was 3 years old and was the flower girl who she wanted dressed in the same gown as her (basically the same). She looked adorable and the rehearsal went very well, so we thought we were out of the woods. Yeah right! By the time the wedding ceremony was approaching, she was getting antsy. I fed her, picked her up, played games, did everything we could to keep her in good shape, but a kid is a kid. So the wedding processional music began and down this VERY long aisle the bridal party began walking. The last one to walk down the aisle before my oldest daughter, the bride, was my youngest daughter, the tired, hungry and miserable 3 year old. When it was her turn to go, she refused and screamed in the church. Then one of the younger boys took her hand to walk her down. She screamed even more and threw herself on the floor crying for me. Well, there went the poise of the mother of the bride and she never did walk down the aisle. We never got her in those pictures. My daughter, the bride, was late walking down the aisle and the entire church was stressed. Now how old are the children you want in the wedding party?

You do know that I am kidding. Well, half kidding anyway. Children can be a wonderful addition to any wedding. Just know the rules when dealing with kids and you'll be okay.

Make sure they get lots of sleep, and if it is a night wedding, a nap would be very wise for them. During the rehearsal, allow them to rehearse their part several times more than the adults. If the adults are having a problem remembering what to do, just think about what a little one is going through. Also, if the child is under 5 or 6 years old, have an older child or adult that is in the wedding party walk with them. I've learned through experience that it is an insurance policy. Lastly, put a piece of tape on the floor where the child is to stand after walking down the aisle. They will feel more secure and so will you!

Enjoy the kids. They grow up so quickly. Mine is a young lady now and when I think of the craziness of that day, it puts a smile on my lips.

Enjoy this wonderful part of your life. By the way, the little girl in the above photo is my grandaughter.
Much happiness coming your way,
Bella
Unique Wedding Favors

The Day of Your Wedding...Ceremony Timetable!

The day you 've been waiting for! You don't know whether to laugh, cry, faint, throw up or run. Relax. Those of us who have gone this route have been there, although many of us refuse to admit it! Hey, if the truth be told, it took me most of the first year for me to catch up with the fact of what I'd done! And now that I look back, 34 years later, I realize it was the best day of my life! But going through this day can be torment! But with preparatin and a timetable, you can really enjoy it...almost...

Now, one thing you have to realize is that you can't take someone else's timetable and fit it into your wedding. You have to come up with your own, customized to each individual situation. But I can at least give you some guidelines to help you figure out your own.

About 2 1/2-3 hours before the ceremony, the bridesmaids should arrive at the bride's home. This time is used for hair (if not done by a salon prior), make-up and then dressing, (unless the bridesmaids came over already in their dresses). This normally takes about 1-2 hours, leaving approximately 1 hour for the photographer to take some formal shots.

<img border "0" src="http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/6113/3416/320/cc%20pearl%20Id%20bracelet%20sm.0.jpg" border="0" /> During this time, the bride can give her bridesmaids their gifts (groom will do the same on his end) so that if they are something that they will all wear that day, they will have them. Sometimes this is done at the rehearsal dinner (one to two nights before) but if not, this is an appropriate time to give them.

Approximately 1-2 hours before the time of the ceremony, the florist should arrive with the bride's bouquet, corsages and boutonniere's for the bride's father. At this point, photos can be taken.

Approximately 30 minutes prior to the ceremony, the boutonniere for the ushers and for the groom's father are handed out at the place of the ceremony, in the room that the groom and his ushers are waiting in.

Depending on how long it takes to get from the home to the place of the ceremony, the bride and her bridesmaids should arrive exactly on time. All the pre-wedding photos should have been completed at the bride's home.

At this point, nerves are jangling. I can remember this moment almost like it was yesterday, so the best thing to do during the ride to the ceremony, is to put on some very relaxing music in the car or limo. Believe me, it helps! Also, a glass of wine doesn't hurt either...again J/K...LOL

Right before the ceremony, the best man should make sure that the marriage license has been given to the officiant (if this didn't happen at the rehearsal) and that the ring bearer in fact, does have the ring!

Approximately 15 minutes prior to the ceremony, music should be played, either live or track. The ushers should be available to great the guests which usually arrive 15-30 minutes prior to ceremony time.

5 minutes prior to the ceremony, the head usher escorts the groom's mother to her seat. The groom's father walks behind the mother and usher and sits with his wife. The head usher can also be another son or brother or someone special to her. Also, if grandparents or any other special people are to be escorted to their seats, this is the time to do it.

Then the bride's mother is escorted to her seat in the same way. The ushers then take their place in the back with the rest of the wedding party.

Processional music begins.
If there is a candlelight ceremony, the candles should be lit now. The minister, the groom and the best man step into their places at the front of the church or chapel. the wedding party enters either as couples or singly, whichever is your choice. The groomsmen take their place on the right side, the bridesmaids on the left. The maid of honor follows the bridesmaid and the flower girl and ring bearer behind her. Everyone takes their places at the front of the church. The music changes to the chosen bridal entrance music. The congregation rises. The bride and her father walk down the aisle. The father (or designated person) gives the bride to the groom and then takes his place next to the bride's mother.

Well, if you reached this point, you've arrived and you are now Mr. and Mrs. You're beginning a brand new chapter of your life. Congratulations!

Much happiness coming your way,
Bella
Unique Wedding Favors

P.S. Big tip! Don't forget to have either your wedding planner, the banquet rep. or someone you are close to, get to the reception to put out all of your unique wedding favors that you bought for a gift for your guests. It just happened to someone I know. Don't overlook this! Have fun! You're going to have a gorgeous wedding!

Bridal Showers...When it rains, it pours!

Yep, that shower can turn into a downpour! Ask me! At my daughter's Bridal Shower, on a hot, humid day in August, the air conditioning in the restaurant broke! Yep, God's honest truth! So when I go to Bridal Showers now, I have to take a prozac on the way! J/K - LOL - (Cute mint tin Shower favor though...no?)

Okay, even though that is a true story, let's get down to business here - the business of the infamous shower. Traditionally, bridal showers are given by the maid/matron of honor or the entire bridal party or even close friends. It usually is not given by the family. They have enough to worry about with the wedding!

To be perfectly frank, there is great purpose for a Bridal Shower. They help the couple furnish their new home with many useful household items. And showers nowadays, are centered around a theme. You can have a kitchen shower, lingerie shower, greenback shower (all money), etc...the possibilities are endless.

It is the job of the hostess (whoever that is) to decide on a theme and then plan (hopefully with help from the bride's friends) the entire day. If there is more than one shower, those that are the hosts need to check with each other not to duplicate the theme and guests. What is very popular in many parts of the country is to have one large Bridal Shower and then, for closer friends and family, have a 'personal' Bridal Shower where the bride receives gifts of lingerie and more intimate gifts.

Showers, more often than not, are informal get-togethers that take place during lunchtime on Saturday or Sunday, or even during a mid-afternoon tea. (Speaking of an "afternoon tea," take a look at this very unique wedding favor that is just yummy for just that!) Recently, what has come into vogue is a co-ed evening shower, called "Jack and Jill," which consists mostly of and other single men and women.

During many shower, games are played which can be a lot of fun. One of my daughters loved having games. The other one made it known that she really dislikes that, and asked if we could pass on playing games. So, to each his own in that case.

Because shower gifts are usually very practical and for the home, it is wise to register at your favorite department or gift store. Just make sure that you choose items that are all prices from inexpensive to expensive, allowing all kinds of gifts for women to purchase, or join together to get a larger gift. My daughter's wedding party knew of a dinnerware set that she really wanted, so instead of all of them buying her smaller gifts, they put their money together and purchase the service for 8 dinnerware.

Oh yeah, and don't forget the Bridal Shower favor and thank you cards. Both of these (oh my, you should see the cutie shower favors we have...I really love them!) are available on my website http://designstoremember.com. That is the link to the shower favor and from that site you can link to the site with the invitations.

And regarding thank you cards - one very cute idea for getting addresses for sending out thank you cards is giving away a door prize. What happens is this. At the door, everyone is given a card where they have to fill out their name and mailing address. They are all put in a hat and at the end of the shower, one card is picked. That person wins the prize and now the bride has all the addresses for thank you cards!

Also please remember, whoever you invite to the shower, should really be invited to the wedding.

That's it for this post. Hope you got the Bridal Shower thingy down! Have a wonderful day!

Much happiness coming your way!
Bella
Unique Wedding Favors

Bridesmaids Dilemma! I hate that dress on me!

Oh boy! This is so difficult. It's like hitting a brick wall. Okay, here is the scenario. You decide on the women to ask to be in your Bridal Party. You've talked to all of them. They realize that it is your wedding and the only time you'll ever do this (hopefully!) and since it is YOUR wedding, you're going to pick out the colors and style of the bridesmaids dresses. And it's not an issue for any of them. (Yeah right...just you wait!)

You all decide on which day you can all go and look at the dresses and try them on. the day arrives, you carpool together and you arrive. You're a very diligent bride, so you've gone in advance and you've chosen 5 colors and styles of the dresses you really like. Your wedding party consists of many different types and shapes and colors of girls. One is olive-skinned, 5' tall and 5' wide. One is lily white, 5'10" and is reed thin! Another is African-American, average weight and height. The last one is Asian, medium dark skin and 5'7" tall. Your maid of honor is your sister who is medium skinned, average height, but just found out that she is pregnant and will be due for the baby 3-4 weeks before the wedding! Have fun! This may sound "over the top"...but trust me, if it isn't this scenario, it's one very similar to it. Just change the names to protect the innocent!

I know, I know, it's your wedding day. I know that, but do they?

One of them likes the burgundy fitted dress. Why wouldn't she? She looks like a stinkin' model, or so says the 5' tall young lady. The shorter girl likes the champagne colored empire waisted dress. Your sister will never be able to wear anything other than empire waist, so that throws out a couple of the dresses that you picked out! And it goes on and on and on.

STOP THE INSANITY!!! This is where you come in. Look, you want to make everyone happy. I can understand that. But you HAVE to make a decision that is right for you, with their opinions being considered.

Really look at the way the dresses look on them and the colors. Compromise. You're never going to make everyone happy. And honestly, you should consider your maid of honor and her opinion the most. And since she will be big and pregnant, maybe give her a darker, more slimming color and then go from there. Just accept it. You're not going to please everyone. And when you've finally decided on a dress, there will be those that think it's too expensive! Ahhhhhhhhh!

Do this early. Get it out of the way. This is one of the most frustrating parts of wedding planning so don't leave it until everything else is falling apart. And also, call around before you go to these places and find out how much lead time they'll need to order the dresses and do alterations.

Breathe! This part will be over soon! Smile. That's about all you can do...

Much happiness coming your way,
Bella
Unique Wedding Favors

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://weddingfavorhelp.blogspot.com/2006/07/bridesmaids-dilemma-i-hate-that-dress.html' title='Bridesmaids Dilemma! Our "Love" Coaster Wedding Favor...what fun!

Okay, so you got through the first part of my checklist! Good for you! So, do you think you're up for the 2nd half? I told you there were a lot of things to consider and discuss! And do it all ASAP! Once this wedding snowball starts rolling downhill, it takes on a life of its own, so you don't want to be caught trying to chase it! Take control of this list from the beginning, keep good records and you'll do fine!
Whew! Okay, wedding checklist continued:

11. Discuss Bridal Shower arrangements - You have to decide where the Bridal Shower will be held (don't forget to check out my Bridal Shower favors and unique wedding favors and also Bridal Shower other cute things on my site and on my affiliate sites!) AND who is going to pay for this? In some areas of the country, it is customary for the girls in the bridal party to pay for the shower, in other areas, it's the groom's mom and in some parts, it falls on the bride's mother (so what else is new?). I'll spend another blog just on bridal showers, cute ideas, games, etc. (Obviously at this point, you have chosen your maid of honor and bridal party...haven't you?). Oh yeah, by the way, a Bridal Shower usually happens 4-8 weeks before the wedding.

12. Select the photographer/videographer - Be very careful here! This is what you will be looking at for many years to come. Check out LOTS of photographers and look at their work. Ask him for a couple of references and if you feel to, call them.

13. Flowers - This can run into some big time money! Flowers are gorgeous at a wedding, but be careful. This can tip your budget totally out of hand! Decide what kinds of flowers the bride will hold and what the bridal party will carry. Again, if you want to stay in budget, a single rose is very elegant. If budget isn't an issue, then go for it girl! Skies the limit! Also here, be careful. Ask around. References are very important for this one! Once you walk into the reception and the flowers are on the table, you're stuck with them!

14. Limos - You have to decide if you will be driven to the ceremony and reception by a limosine service or will family/friends drive you. Also, if you go for limos, do you also want one for the bridal party and parents? Decisions decisions decisions...

15. Wedding Cake - You want to make it easy? Find a banquet hall that includes the cake at no extra charge. Many of them do. They'll just want to know the colors you want on it. Some places allow you to pick from photos of different cakes. There are also upgrades. Be careful with your spending! When you're looking at the gorgeous cakes, you'll say, "But it's only another $100." Remember, $100 here, $100 there...watch it all add up!

16. Reception Music - Band or D.J. - totally your preference and pocketbook. Bands are generally more expensive, but some people wouldn't consider anything but a live band. Others could care less. But if you are considering a band, go to wedding band sampler nights. Go to many of them. And then speak to the group after. Ask them if they can play your "wedding song" (yes, you have to pick that!) and other types of music that you like. And of course, ask them their price and if they expect to be fed. I know that's tough to ask, but with prices per person anywhere from $40-300 a head, you better know if they expect that or not.

17. Honeymoon - Ah...finally...some peace and quiet! Well, perhaps, if you've decided to go to a desert island. Be very careful when booking this. Get recommendations from your friends and family. This beautiful event can turn into a nightmare without the right planning. I will do a complete blog just on this in the future!

Well, that about wraps it up for the checklist...ummm...oops I forgot a couple of the most important things. First of all, your gift to your guests - the Wedding Favor!!! Secondly, your gift to your attendants!!!

18. Wedding Favor & Wedding Attendant Gifts -
I know people don't think a lot about having a unique wedding favor, but it is so important, that it is one of the reasons I went into this business. When I was looking for the perfect gift for our guests (not just throwing anything at them because it was easy and cheap!) I couldn't find what I wanted for the amount I wanted to spend. So I figured I'd start my own business, knowing that others felt just the way I did. So, do me a favor, okay? Go on my website, www.designstoremember.com and check out my favors and prices! The quality is guaranteed and the prices are the lowest you'll find everywhere. I'm not going to skin you alive so I can buy a Mercedes! LOL - Also, go to my affiliate websites for your attendant's gifts. There are really beautiful things there (of yeah, invitations and many other items you'll need)that won't break the bank for you.

That's the list! I'm sure you will have your own set of "todos" that I didn't even include that is personal to you. Just remember, keep good records. Write down everything anyone says to you, because you will forget it in the midst of the chaos!

Much happiness coming your way,
Bella
Unique Wedding Favors

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://weddingfavorhelp.blogspot.com/2006/07/wedding-checklist-continued-very.html' title='Wedding Checklist Continued! So, what's next? Well, considering that you probably have between 3 months to one year to get this all done (depending on your rush to get married!), you need to start immediately. It sounds like a long time, but for some reason when you're planning a wedding, time rushes by! It really does! Ask anyone who has been there. Just not enough time in the day.

Here is the basic checklist you should begin with:

1. Announce the engagement - this can be done personally, through mailed announcement cards or even with a release through your town or city newspaper.
2. Select the wedding date - this is going to take some thought. Remember, Friday and Saturday wedding receptions are the most expensive. Holiday weekend days are the least expensive, and holidays is much, much less - i.e. Labor Day or Columbus Day.
3. Determine how many guests and make an A and B list. A list are the people that have to be invited with B list being those that are maybes and can be invited if A list doesn't come. I know. This doesn't sound great, but again, reality has to play into this. Be sensible. The girl you met doing your nails who is a distant cousin of your sister's friend does NOT have to be invited! :-) (Also, what about kids?)
4. After making your list, decide when the invitations will be sent out. The date should be early so that if you get cancellations, you can invite others. You can send out the invitations from 6-8 weeks before the wedding.
5. How will this be paid for? Who is paying for what? Decide on this right up front to spare problems down the road!
6. Develop a record keeping system for payments made! What I did is to have a notebook with a title on the top of every few pages and I kept all record keeping and notes in that notebook. Any receipts were saved in another accounting type notebook. Every word, every decision, every change, whatever, needs to be logged into that notebook. Don't think you'll remember! By the time the wedding is close by, you will be so jammed that all of your minds will be blank!
7. Select ceremony site and officiant.
8. Select bridal gown and headpiece. Honestly, most times, the first place you go is where you will go back and end up buying the dress. And many times, it's the first dress you tried on. Do this early. It will wear on you if you don't.
9. Decide the color scheme for the wedding. What is very nice is matching it to the season of the year. Then also, you can match your flowers and wedding favor to your theme also!
10. Make sure you get your passport (if needed for the honeymoon) and marriage license, or there will be no marriage!!!

Well there is your first installment of TODOS! Tomorrow is another day and another blog. You don't want to miss the next group. They are doozies! And when you get a chance, stop by my site and say hello. Drop me a "hi" or leave a comment here. I love hearing from all of you. Weddings are a happy time! I love my business!

Much happiness coming your way,
Bella
Unique Wedding Favors

You're engaged! Let me send heaps of congratulations to you! If you are reading this blog, you either just got engaged, are about to be married, are about to marry off a child or have a wedding fetish! Well, whatever one it is, let me just say a couple of things - YAY! YAHOO! WOW! CONGRATS! Okay, now that that is over, you have a HUGE job ahead of you! More than you really can imagine! But, this blog is being written to help you out; to get you beyond the mistakes, problems, disasters and near cancellations of that infamous wedding day!

So, where do we begin? How about at the beginning? For some of you, you’ve already gone beyond these initial wedding plans, but for others, they need to catch up, so just bear with me. There will be blogs up and coming that will aid you where you are right now!

But let me introduce myself, okay? Yes, my name is Betty. And for the purpose of this blog, I’m calling myself Betty Bridal. Sounds appropriate enough, huh? I’ve married off two children and I’m about to marry off one more.

I wish I could say it was all wonderful. Y’know what? Let me say it anyway. It was all wonderful! Now I’m going to repent because I’m such a liar! LOL
It was very difficult! Oh, not at the beginning. Then it was so much fun! I told everyone I knew. We had a dinner celebration. We toasted the happy couple, etc. etc. etc. Then it began!!! All the work!

If you are the bride or groom, there is tons of work. If you are the mother of the bride there is tons of work. If you are anything close to either the bride or the groom or even just coming to the wedding, there is tons of work! Whew! Can you tell I’m “weddinged” out! Again, I’m exaggerating to make a point.

Just know this. I’m going to help you guys find an easier route to all this wedding and marriage stuff than we had. Even my own wedding was a near disaster. The only thing that ended up good about my wedding, was my marriage! And 34 years later, we’re still going strong! I told you I’ve had lots of experience.

Well, there’s my introduction. Hope you come back. We’re going to talk about subjects that no one else will touch!
